Meet Emily
Hi, I'm Emily, the maker behind Fluxweed Artisan Jewelry. I run my tiny one-woman studio here in Portland, Oregon, where I spend my days happily immersed in metalsmithing, stone setting, and bringing new designs to life.
I’ve been an artist and maker for as long as I can remember—always trying my hand at “all the things.” I studied painting and printmaking at the Pacific Northwest College of Art, where I discovered a love for materials, textures, and experimentation. Years later, I found my true calling in jewelry making. Since then, I’ve studied silversmithing at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico, the Multnomah Arts Center, and taken specialized workshops in stone setting and metal casting.
What matters most to me is creating jewelry that feels personal, wearable, and full of joy. I love connecting with people, hearing their stories, and crafting pieces that become part of their everyday lives. If you have a special idea in mind, I’d be delighted to collaborate and make it happen.
Be sure to follow Fluxweed Artisan Jewelry on Instagram @EmilyHeadenJewelry to see behind the scenes and get sneak previews of new handmade items.
In a mostly unrelated note, I am also a keen knitter and enjoy sewing my own clothes when I find the time. O, and I have a lifelong obsession with pandas... Find her @Eheaden on Ravelry

What is Fluxweed ?
Flux itself plays a vital role in the art of silversmithing. Usually found in paste form, it keeps metal clean during heating and helps solder flow, turning two pieces of metal into one. It’s about as close to alchemy as jewelry makers get, and I love that process of transformation.
Fluxweed, on the other hand, is the common name for several humble, flowering plants often found in hedgerows. These wild places are small but mighty ecosystems, supporting all kinds of life, from plants to birds to the occasional hedgehog. There’s no real connection to jewelry here… I just think hedgerows (and all the creatures they shelter) are really wonderful.
And for any fellow Harry Potter fans out there, Hermione would like you to know that Fluxweed is one of the seven ingredients in Polyjuice Potion. Wizards value it for its power to transform, much like the way raw silver and stone transform into finished jewelry.
So in the end, the name Fluxweed is practical, magical, and a little bit nerdy. Which feels just right.
